SITTING like a precious jewel inlaid in the mysterious frontier of the Sichuan-Yunnan region lies the breathtaking Lugu Lake. FIFTY-five-year-old Sonam Yeshe has a wealth of “moving” experience. He grew up in Menshi, a typical pastoral village in Gar County, Tibet Autonomous Region. As a pastoralist his work each year involved grazing yaks and sheep and herding them in three seasonal migrations to summer, autumn, and winter pastures. At the end of 2017 he and his family moved to the Kangle Xinju poverty-relief relocation site in Gar County. They now no longer have to move three times a year.
THE largest grassland nearest to China’s capital, Beijing, is located about 300 kilometers from Beijing in the southwest region of the Keshiketeng Banner, Chifeng City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. It is called the Ulan Buh Grassland.
